Frequently Asked Questions

What can I talk about ?
You can talk about anything that's bothering you, however large or small you think your problem is. Experience shows that it is often better to catch a difficulty early on, before it has the chance to grow. However, we are still happy to see you even if you have reached crisis point and everything seems impossible.

Is counselling confidential ?
Your counsellor will not normally give information to family, friends, doctors or anyone else without your permission. The only time your counsellor might break confidentiality is if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others.

How much does counselling cost ?
Sessions are charged at £45. This can be negotiated depending on your individual circumstances. If you would like to discuss fees then please raise this with your Counsellor.

What happens when I meet my Counsellor ?
The first session is used to explore the possibility of you and your Counsellor working together. It is a chance for you to ask any questions about how the Counsellor works and what counselling entails. It is also an opportunity to discuss what your expectations of counselling might be and any anxieties you might have about beginning. The first session will also clarify practicalities such as fees and timing of sessions. The counsellor will get to know you and there is an opportunity to discuss your concerns and hopes about counselling.

At the end of the first meeting the following outcomes are common:
  • you both agree for counselling to continue, either on a short or longer term basis

  • no further appointments are needed. This may be because you got what you wanted from the consultation, or because you and your Counsellor decided other ways of resolving your problem would be the best option

  • you and your Counsellor agree that another source of help is more relevant to you

How long does counselling last ?
If after the first session you feel that you would like to begin counselling, then sessions can carry on for as long as you wish them to. You may find that a few sessions are all that you need, or you may wish to continue for longer. Each session of counselling lasts 50 minutes. You will be normally be offered a weekly appointment at a regular time for the number of sessions agreed between you and your Counsellor.

What if I have to miss a session ?
If you need to cancel an appointment you will need to give at least 24 hours notice, otherwise a charge for the session will be made.

I think my friend/spouse/partner could benefit from counselling. Can you help ?
You are welcome to contact us to talk through any concerns you have for a friend/colleague/partner etc. However, it is very important that the person who will receive the counselling contacts us directly to arrange their appointment. If you are finding it difficult to deal with another person's problems or behaviour then it may be helpful for you to consider counselling as support for yourself.

I am an employer who would like to offer counselling to my staff. Can you help me ?
We are able to offer counselling to your employees. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
